Illinois currently prohibits licensed professionals from providing reparative therapy to individuals who experience unwanted same-sex attraction. At the same time, Illinois law permits counseling and therapy for individuals seeking to align their lives with a gender identity different from their biological sex.

Mauck & Baker previously challenged the Illinois statute and obtained a federal court order permitting pastors to provide counseling to individuals seeking help in overcoming same sex attraction or homosexual orientation.
Mauck & Baker is now seeking psychologists or psychiatrists who are Christian or have other faiths and may be interested in participating in litigation on behalf of individuals who desire counseling consistent with their faith and personal convictions. The objective is to further challenge the Illinois law and protect the ability of professional counselors and clients to engage in counseling, prayer, and related support without the threat of enforcement by Illinois officials.
Representation would be provided on a pro bono basis and may involve class action litigation. Participation may also provide an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to an important religious liberty and professional counseling issue.
