What Does It Mean to Plan Your Estate as a Christian?
Estate planning is the process of arranging for the management and disposal of a person’s assets during their life and after death. It involves making legal and financial decisions to ensure that your property, finances, and personal wishes are handled according to your intentions. As estate planning attorneys who work with families of faith, we’ve witnessed what transforms estate planning from a mere legal exercise into something distinctly Christian. The answer isn’t found in special documents or religious clauses. Rather, it’s about approaching the entire process through a biblical lens. The Psalms remind us: “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it” (Psalm 24:1). This isn’t abstract theology; it’s the foundational premise that reshapes how we think about “our” assets. The Bible has a lot to say about money; and it is full of guidance on stewardship, providing for family, generosity, and generational blessings.
