At Mauck & Baker, we have been busy assisting our clients with a variety of matters. Many of our clients are mission-driven, and we are privileged to play a role that directly serves in accomplishing our clients’ visions. Below are some of the highlights that stood out this year in our practice.
Our tax-exempt entities practice includes setting up non-profit corporations, private foundations for family philanthropy for religious and charitable purposes, and helping obtain tax-exempt status with the IRS and the Illinois Department of Revenue, as well as real estate tax exemptions. We have many success stories and are working towards getting good outcomes on some challenging cases. Stay tuned as we hope to share some of them in our future Mauck & Baker reports!
During COVID-19 we saw many woes but one of them was evictions. The moratorium on evictions during the early part of the pandemic and the sheer volume of eviction cases filed after the moratorium was lifted crushed the already jammed system. Courts are a lot more streamlined now, but it still takes a long time and a lot of efforts to go through. We have handled numerous eviction matters on behalf of small landlords. We’d be happy to talk with you what it is like and provide information you may find helpful.
Post-Covid Estate Planning
Post Covid-19, the awareness for essential legal documents is heightened. We have assisted countless clients to secure essential legal documents to take care of our clients and their families. They include will, trust, power of attorney for property and power of attorney for healthcare. More importantly, we advise our clients on proper title holding of their assets depending on the nature and character of the properties. For those who own real estate, international assets, business interests, and those with charitable desire, we also discuss proper way of handling that’s also tax-efficient. We will be sharing more of what we recommend in future Mauck & Baker reports, so stay tuned for more information on this!
